Juicing FAQ
Where do you find your juicing recipes?
I got my inspiration for my recipes at Pressed Juicery. They have detox plans that you can order and have shipped to your door, and they list the ingredients in the juices on their websites. I started by taking the same ingredients and using them to make my juices, then got more creative and started mixing and matching as I went.
I also like to look at the ingredients listed on commercial juices like evolution fresh, and base my juices off of those. (Here is a screenshot from their site).

When you’re juice fasting, what plan do you follow/recommend?
I’m NOT a nutritionist or a doctor. Before you start ANY plan, you should speak with your doctor, and I certainly DO NOT RECOMMEND following this plan without first contacting your doctor. This is just what works for ME, and what I feel comfortable doing. You should always listen to your body! That being said, an average day for me (while fasting) is as follows:
JUICES (total of 5, one every 2-3 hours):
- 2-3 16 oz green juices
- 1-2 16 oz “detox” fruit juices
- 1 16 oz root based juice (optional)
OTHER:
- 1 16 oz chlorophyll and water drink (to be sipped throughout the day)
- 1 16 oz almond milk and date drink (freshly made, not from a carton!!)
- 1 cup of low sodium vegetable stock (optional)
- 1 aloe vera drink (at the very end of the day)
- at least 8 oz of water between each juice
Do you find juicing to be difficult?
In my experience, there were difficult moments while juice fasting, but overall, it wasn’t too terribly hard. As long as I made sure I was drinking a juice every 2 hours or so, I didn’t feel hungry, and when I felt like I needed a hot meal, the vegetable broth did a good job sating my cravings. I of course had cravings and weak moments, but I was able to overcome them by remembering that the food I was craving wasn’t going to suddenly disappear. There was no need for me to rush out and break my fast just because I wanted a sandwich. There’s no shortage of sandwiches in the US, so I was able to wait until I finished my fast.
Did you lose weight/how much weight did you lose?
Over the course of my fast, I lost 10 lbs. I tried not to weigh myself very frequently while I was fasting, because I feel like that can lead to some disordered behaviors/thinking and unrealistic expectations about weight loss. You do lose weight VERY QUICKLY while fasting, but you also gain some back from the weight of the food you eat when you break it.
How do you break your fast?
I started by switching to smoothies rather than juices, then only had raw fruits and (easy to digest) vegetables. After that, I added some nuts and grains, and by the 4th day or so, I was eating normally again.
Does your appetite decrease after you juice fast?
Absolutely! I’ve found that it’s so much easier to understand the signals my body is sending me now. I can recognize when I’m full (which happens a lot sooner than it did before), and stop eating, rather than just clearing my plate no matter what.
Can you share some of your juice recipes?
